Practice, action, and effort are the foundation and essential component of living in wholeness and balance.
Last week I returned from my first 10-day silent meditation retreat. To say it was a worthwhile experience would be an understatement. The silence was the easy part; being without my trusty daily distractions and the physical/mental demand of the strict meditation schedule was incredibly challenging. I came home with renewed commitment to my practice using a pragmatic, practical, and informative approach to meditation.
We live in an age of information, where we seek knowledge, insight, and inspiration from every source imaginable. Many of us deeply trust our sources of information – systems of devotion and faith, science, teachers, ancient texts, friends, certain corners of the internet… This vast collection of intellectual knowledge is sometimes helpful in fostering us along our path and sometimes this knowledge is limiting, leading us to believe that intellectual understanding is the key to personal growth and transformation.
the whole community at La Maida exists to foster your path in self-care, growth, and bringing into light the most gentle, subtle, and precious aspects of who you are.
My retreat helped solidify the importance of practice, action, and effort as the foundation, the essential component, of living in wholeness and balance.
As we quickly enter the holiday season and the conclusion of 2017, I offer this up – identify or rediscover an anchor point that speaks to you; be it attention to your breath, time in nature, movement, yoga, observing bodily sensations or sounds around you. Short or extended periods of daily practice are as vital and nourishing as sleep, food, and connection with others.
I received overwhelming support from my bosses and colleagues at La Maida to go on retreat. Likewise, it is the case that the whole community at La Maida exists to foster your path in self-care, growth, and bringing into light the most gentle, subtle, and precious aspects of who you are. I look forward to sharing this kind, supportive space with you at La Maida during this holiday season and into the New Year.
